Catholic Foundation Awards $108,000 in Grants to Diocese, Parishes, Schools and Catholic Organizations
Thanks to the generosity of its donors and to favorable earnings on its investment portfolio, The Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Lubbock, Inc., has awarded a record number of annual grants, including $85,000 to the Diocese of Lubbock to use in its ministries, $18,000 to parishes, Catholic schools and organizations and a special $5,000 grant to Campus Ministry. The 2017 grant recipients are:
$2,500 to St. Isidro, Abernathy, to replace leaking gas line
$750 to St. Michael, Anson, to renovate Parish Hall
$500 to St. Anthony de Padua, Anton, to repair Parish Hall floor
$250 to St. Mary, Aspermont, to purchase material to build kneelers
$500 to St. Anthony, Brownfield, for Vacation Bible School materials/supplies
$500 to St. Mary Magdalen, Earth, to purchase liturgical vestments
$500 to Holy Trinity, Hamlin, to purchase projector and screens
$250 to St. George, Haskell, for classroom needs such as AV equipment, books, videos and music
$1,000 to St. Phillip Benizi, Idalou, to purchase new tabernacle
$750 to Campus Ministry of St. Elizabeth Parish for subscription to FORMED website and phone app
$750 to Catholic Charities for Parent Empowerment Program Workshops
$1,000 to Christ the King School, Lubbock, for Adopt-a-Student Program providing financial assistance for tuition of eligible students
$85,000 to Diocese of Lubbock, Lubbock, for its many ministries, including seminarian education, clergy continuing information, faith formation, youth, marriage and family life, vocations, peace and justice
$500 to Nurturing Center, Lubbock, for expenses related to presenting Theology of the Body programs in rural parishes
$500 to Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat Ministry of West Texas, Lubbock, for scholarships for those suffering from the trauma of abortion to attend a healing retreat.
$500 to St. Joseph Church, Lubbock, to renovate youth room
$500 to St. Theresa, Lubbock, for Jr. and High School to purchase LifeTeen and EDGE
$750 to Immaculate Conception, Muleshoe, to purchase parish hall refrigerator
$1,000 to St. Elizabeth, Paducah, toward rectory maintenance
$500 to St. Phillip Neri, Pep, for projector
$1,000 to Holy Cross, Post, to purchase computer and on-site internet service
$500 to St. Joseph, Rotan, to purchase AV equipment to aid with liturgy
$500 to St. Paul, Seagraves, to purchase liturgical linens
$500 to St. James, Seminole, to purchase bibles and copy machine
$1,000 to St. Phillip Benizi, Shallowater, to repair storage room and create storage facility
$500 to St. Mary, Spur, to repair sacristy bathroom
$500 to St. Ann, Stamford, to install windows in classroom doors
$5,000 to Campus Ministry for operating expenses in honor of their great success in young adult evangelization and catechesis
“Relying on the mission and purpose of the Catholic Foundation, this year the Board of Directors funded grants that support capital expenditures, special projects, unique opportunities and emergency needs,” said Gary Bellair, Foundation Chair. “We are grateful to the generous benefactors of the Catholic Foundation who make this possible.”
The Catholic Foundation is a separately incorporated non-profit organization that exists solely to support the parishes, schools and Catholic organizations within the 25-county Diocese of Lubbock. Its focus is to continue to build its assets – currently at $3.0 million – through planned gifts such as endowment funds, estate bequests, annuities, life insurance, and investment portfolios to create earnings for the long term support of diocesan ministries, Catholic parishes, schools and organizations.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Lubbock encompasses 25 counties and a self-identified Catholic population of 136,894. The diocese includes 63 parishes, one elementary school, one middle school, one high school, one Catholic health care system and a social service agency, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Lubbock, Inc.
