As followers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the spirit of Saint Francis, we are a group of women consecrated to God by the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience and live out our consecrated life in community.
We are a Franciscan community of a branch of a congregation founded in Switzerland in the sixteen century. In 1892, in answer to an earnest plea from a bishop in Ecuador, a small group of sisters left their Swiss Convent for the missions of South America.
A group of these sisters, under Sister Caritas Brader, crossed over into Colombia and grew into our congregation, the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate. Gradually the sisters' work spread and flourished throughout Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Central America and the Southwestern United States.
The first establishment of our Franciscan Sisters in the United States was made in Amarillo, TX on August 15, 1932. In 1981, a group of these sisters was authorized to branch out and form our group which is know as the Saint Francis Mission Community.
Relying on the providence of God, we praise and adore Him while serving the needs of the Church in Lubbock, Plainview and Odessa. Our apostolic ministries include: retreat work, teaching in Catholic schools and in religious education, serving in administrative and domestic services in our local communities and vocation promotions.
